Convert between 18 major world currencies using official European Central Bank reference rates, updated every working day. These are mid-market rates with no markup, and a swap button flips the pair in one click.

What is the currency converter?

A currency converter turns an amount in one currency into another at a given exchange rate. This tool uses the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, the mid-market rate that sits exactly between the buy and sell price. It is the fairest single number to quote, and comparing it to what your bank offers reveals the margin you are really paying.

How the currency converter works

How to use it

  1. Type the amount you want to convert.
  2. Choose the from and to currencies, or tap a quick pair.
  3. Use the swap button to reverse the direction instantly.
  4. Read the live rate and its inverse below the result.

Good to know before you rely on it

  • The mid-market rate is a reference, not what you will be charged. Banks and apps add a margin, so compare their all-in quote against this number.
  • Rates update once each working day, so weekend and holiday figures carry over from the last close.
  • For large transfers, the margin matters more than any headline fee. A "no fee" service can still cost more through a wide spread.
  • Card and ATM withdrawals abroad often use a worse rate plus a foreign-transaction fee, so check both before you travel.

Why Thewealthora’s currency converter is different

  • Official ECB reference rates, not a padded rate dressed up as the real one.
  • Shows both directions of the rate, so you can sense-check any quote.
  • One-tap swap and popular pairs for the conversions people actually make.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these exchange rates come from?

From the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, via the open Frankfurter API. They are mid-market rates, so banks and remittance apps typically add a margin on top.

Why is my bank's rate different?

Banks and money-transfer services add a spread, often 1 to 4 per cent, plus fees, on top of the mid-market rate. Comparing their quote to the mid-market rate here shows what you are really being charged.

How often do the rates update?

The European Central Bank publishes reference rates once each working day, in the afternoon Central European Time. Weekend and holiday rates carry over from the last working day.
